In his 20+ years teaching snare, percussion and drumset, Ryan has developed a concise teaching method that has proven successful for the beginner to advanced drummer. Much focus is given to proper grip development, the "Moeller" technique of upstroking and downstroking, stick control and stretching exercises designed especially for the drummer to avoid repetitive strain injuries. These are perhaps the most overlooked aspects in drum education, but crucial to one's ability to reach their maximum potential as a drummer. Dynamics and the natural motion of music come to the forefront throughout Ryan's teaching. Musicality is improved as a result, giving a less mechanical, more lyrical feel to the drums. Music theory and the mathematics of music are also stressed throughout, with much attention paid to understanding sub-division and the development of syncopation.
Ryan recommends group instruction for ages 4 to 9, and classes run Saturday and Sunday mornings year round. Groups are limited to 4 students per class and drums and sticks are supplied. Our Prodigy Classes are short, focused and fun! Click here for more details!
